Durban rules out transport levy for climate fund

Climate negotiators will no longer call for a levy on aviation and shipping emissions, ENDS has learnt. A reference to shipping as a source of finance for the new Green Climate Fund was reportedly dropped from the draft Durban text on Friday.

There is not expected to be any detail on where money for the fund will come from in the final text. “I don’t rule it out, but it looks like the pressure has come off on sources of finance,” said development NGO Oxfam’s Tim Gore. “The ministers have dropped the ball on that and it looks like the fund they’re setting up will be an empty shell.”
