Climate talks still hang in the balance late Friday

Negotiations in Durban on the future of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and plans to adopt a wider legally binding climate agreement involving developing countries looked set to overrun long into the weekend as ENDS went to press on Friday evening.

There were also signs delegates might be ready to formally launch the green climate fund but they seemed to back away from agreeing reforms to the clean development mechanism (CDM) and the thorny issue of emissions from shipping and aviation.
