UN discussions on CDM drag on in Durban

UN climate change negotiators in Durban could not agree on the final details of further guidance on the Kyoto Protocol's clean development mechanism (CDM), leaving it to their ministers to try to reach an agreement on Friday evening.

The text still contained numerous square brackets, with no consensus on whether the CDM remains operational after Kyoto's first commitment period in 2013 even without new CO2 reduction targets for industrialised countries in place.
