Council talks on PIC, Seveso to continue in 2012

Member state discussions on the imports and exports of hazardous chemicals and the Seveso directive on major accident hazards look set to carry on next year. Progress reports will be submitted to EU environment ministers on Monday.

Talks on the so-called prior informed consent (PIC) regime for traded hazardous chemicals are progressing in the European Parliament. The environment committee is due to adopt its recommendations on Tuesday. Rapporteur Dan Jørgensen opposes further derogations for exports of chemicals banned or restricted in the EU.
