Governments were unable to reach agreement on establishing a network of marine protected areas (MPAs) around Antarctica at a meeting in Australia last week.

More time and consideration is needed before consensus is reached, said a statement from the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). The discussions, which ended on Thursday, will start again at a special meeting to be held in Germany next July.
