A self-commitment, rather than a voluntary agreement, would be the best way to reduce the energy use of game consoles under ecodesign legislation, manufacturers said at a stakeholder meeting in Brussels on Friday.

Binding ecodesign requirements or a voluntary agreement would be inappropriate for such a small sector that only has a marginal impact on electricity consumption and limited energy savings potential, according to manufacturers.
