EC unveils water protection policy framework

The plan to protect EU water resources foresees a range of voluntary actions, guidelines and possible regulatory actions to tackle scarcity and cut pollution

The European Commission announced its long-awaited plan to protect EU water resources on Thursday. The plan foresees a range of voluntary actions, guidelines and possible regulatory measures to tackle water scarcity and cut pollution.

In the blueprint, which was issued alongside an assessment of water policy and a report on river basin management plans, the commission also suggests making water efficiency a condition to receive EU agricultural and cohesion funds.
