EIB plans more climate bonds for next year

The European Investment Bank will launch a new round of climate bonds, which have proved particularly attractive with Scandinavian investors, in early 2013

The European Investment Bank (EIB) plans to launch a new round of climate bonds early next year, a spokesperson said, after the bonds raised €350m in 2012 for lending to renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Europe.

This year the EIB issued four tranches of Climate Awareness Bonds, which allow pension funds, banks and other investors to make investments that will be spent on climate mitigation. The 2012 bonds will mature in 2015, 2019 and 2023.
