EU parliament votes to end climate vetoes

In a resolution on the forthcoming climate negotiations in Doha, MEPs urged member states to adopt future decisions by qualified majority

Political pressure is mounting for the Council of Ministers to no longer allow countries such as Poland to block climate law, with the European Parliament urging member states to adopt future decisions by qualified majority.

Without such a commitment from the council to proceed on environmental matters with or without Poland’s support, the EU runs the risk of being unable to make strong pledges under any future international climate deal, says WWF.
