No EU member state compliant with EU noise legislation

The European Commission expects widespread non-compliance with expensive noise pollution regulations for which an important deadline is approaching

The European Commission expects widespread non-compliance with expensive noise pollution regulations for which an important deadline is approaching, ENDS has learned.

No EU member state is currently compliant with the EU 2002 environmental noise directive’s requirements for updated strategic noise maps, a well placed commission source said.

And many member states are likely to miss the directive’s July 2013 deadline for drawing up action plans to address priority areas near major roads, railways and large urban areas, the source added.
