MEPs plan changes to backloading proposal

The MEP in charge of the backloading proposal wants to ensure the commission's intervention in the EU carbon market would be a once off

The parliament rapporteur in charge of the backloading proposal, Matthias Groote of the social democrats (S&D), wants to ensure the European Commission’s intervention in the EU carbon market would be a once off.

The commission proposes to postpone auctions of 900 million EU allowances (EUAs) until the end of phase 3 of the emissions trading system (ETS) to boost to carbon prices. But MEPs and member states must first give it the powers to do so.
