EU to urge action on fossil fuel subsidies, HFCs

The European Union will suggest areas of climate policy where international progress can be made when ministers meet on Wednesday in Doha

The EU will attempt to bring new life into the UN climate negotiations on Wednesday by moving away from an exclusive focus on carbon mitigation pledges and “technicalities”, climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard suggested on Monday.

European negotiators taking part in informal talks at ministerial level will draw attention to measures that have so far been discussed on the sidelines of UN climate talks, such as HFC cuts and the phasing out of fossil fuel subsidies.
