An industry voluntary agreement (VA) setting ecodesign requirements for imaging equipment would more efficiently improve the energy efficiency of these products compared with a binding regulation, the EU executive has concluded.

But in a draft report due to be formally approved early next year, the commission warns that it will impose binding ecodesign rules on manufacturers if the initiative does not deliver the expected energy savings.
