The European Commission’s environment department is considering adding methane to a list of four air pollutants regulated under the National Emission Ceilings (NEC) directive, an official told a stakeholder conference on Wednesday.
One of the main reasons for including the greenhouse gas in a piece of legislation on air pollution is that it contributes to the formation of ground-level ozone, which with particulate matter has one of the highest impact on human health.
