Biogas production for electricity and heating increased last year, but the economic downturn and regulatory restrictions do not auger well for the sector’s further expansion, market research suggests.

However, member states appear to be on track to meet their biogas goals under their national renewable energy plans, according to EurObserv’ER, a research group backed by a consortium of energy companies, banks, and public agencies.
