Sweden’s proposal to classify lead metal as a known category 1A reprotoxic substance under the EU rules on the classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of chemicals “lacks scientific robustness”, the lead industry has argued.

Only lead compounds are currently classified as category 1A reprotoxic substance under CLP rules. If adopted, the Swedish proposal will pave the way for lead metal’s possible addition to a list of substances of very high concern (SVHC).
