Gas should regain the advantage over coal by 2017 in Europe, the International Energy Agency predicted on Tuesday, ending a marked switch to coal in recent years

Gas should regain the advantage over coal by 2017 in the European region, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted on Tuesday, ending a marked switch to coal use for power generation and industrial production in the past two years.

Coal consumption in OECD countries in Europe is predicted to increase on average by a mere 0.4% annually in the next five years, mainly generated by stronger coal demand in Turkey, according to medium-term IEA projections.
