Member states must improve implementation of EU water legislation, environment ministers agreed on Monday. This is a key priority in the European Commission’s blueprint for water protection unveiled in November.

The ministers, who met in Brussels for the last time under the Cyprus presidency of the EU, also backed specific measures proposed by the commission, while stressing that regional specificities should be taken into account.
