EU contests approval of UK gas plant permit

The British authorities gave consent to a gas power station in Wales without a proper assessment of its environmental impacts, says the European Commission

The British authorities gave consent to a gas power station in Wales without a proper assessment of its environmental impacts, says the European Commission.

“By allowing the plant to be built, [the Department of Energy and Climate Change] presented decision-makers further down the line with a fait accompli,” according to a commission letter to the UK’s foreign affairs minister.

This has potentially resulted in damage to the Milford Haven, an estuary protected under the EU Habitats Directive, adds the EU executive.
