France plans new controls on commercial lights

The French government is to restrict the use of illuminated commercial signs from July next year and will consider similar controls on outdoor and office lighting. The plans are among 27 measures in a new energy efficiency programme launched on Friday.

The programme is based on recommendations made by a national roundtable on energy efficiency established in June. It should help France cut its energy consumption in 2020 by 19.7-21.4%, the environment ministry says.
