EU ETS emissions dropped by 1.4% in 2012

GHG emissions from sectors covered by the emissions trading system fell for a second year in a row last year, according to preliminary EU data

Greenhouse gas emissions from sectors covered by the EU's emissions trading system (ETS) fell for a second year in a row last year, dropping by 1.4% to 1.79 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent, according to preliminary data.

Emissions from power generators, by far the biggest sector in the ETS, dropped by 0.4% to 1.28 billion tCO2e. In the manufacturing sector and other industries, emissions fell much more steeply, by almost 4% to 503 million tCO2e.
