EP committee backs hierarchy of biomass uses

The European Parliament’s environment committee calls for the “smart and efficient use of biomass” rather than simply burning it for energy production

The EU should develop legislation promoting the “smart and efficient use of biomass” rather than simply burning it for energy production, members of the European Parliament’s environment committee said on Wednesday.

In their response to a strategy to boost the European bio-economy, the MEPs called for a “pyramid" of biomass uses that encourages “value-adding applications”.
