Draft sustainability criteria for biomass emerge

The European Commission’s energy department has finalised its proposal to set sustainability criteria for biomass, confirming plans to target large installations with an electricity capacity above 1MW or 2.5MW for thermal plants.

The proposal, which is currently going through inter-service consultation, is likely to be formally tabled in the autumn. It translates into legislative terms suggestions presented to member state representatives in Brussels in April.
