The French delegation in Warsaw was anxious to prevent a repeat of the Copenhagen fiasco at the Paris summit in 2015 as UN climate talks entered their final few hours on Friday, with little sign of a timeline for the pledges bring agreed.

In the morning, France was officially named as host of the summit where a global climate deal is due to be finalised. But there were signs the country is worried it will have signed up to lead a sinking ship if countries do not table emission reduction pledges in good time.
