First decisions emerge on IED transitional plans

The European Commission has approved Greece’s plan giving eight large combustion plants more time to comply with EU air pollutant limits

The EU has approved Greece’s transitional national plan (TNP) giving eight large combustion plants more time to comply with pollutant limits under the Industrial Emissions Directive. Decisions on another nine plans are due shortly.

Environmental groups are concerned about the criteria the European Commission is using to judge the plans, and on this basis might challenge some of its decisions in court. They also expect some plans to be rejected.
