Brussels consults on waste export certification

The EU executive's industry department wants to know which of the four options explored in 2012 consultancy report stakeholders prefer

The European Commission’s industry department is consulting on whether to introduce a certification scheme to guarantee that waste exported to non-EU countries is treated in a sustainable way.

The objective is also to tackle illegal waste shipments and improve European manufacturers’ access to critical raw materials.

The consultation, launched on Tuesday, asks waste sector representatives, civil society groups, national authorities and other stakeholders which of the four options explored in 2012 consultancy report they prefer.
