Doubts over ecodesign rules for power transformers

Member states may not approve draft ecodesign standards for power transformers because they have reservations about the proposals

Member states may not approve draft ecodesign standards for power transformers as they are understood to have reservations about the proposals. A vote by their representatives in Brussels will take place on Friday.

According to a source, some of them share NGOs' concern that the requirements are too weak.

The standards cover transformers used by utilities and in industry, and would introduce increasingly stringent energy efficiency requirements in 2015 and 2021. Other environmental impacts will be considered for inclusion at a later date.
