Five projects awarded funding under the NER300 scheme for innovative renewable energy face delays, while one has been withdrawn because the technology required is not ready.
Ireland’s decision to pull its 5 megawatt Westwave project means an extra €20m will be available for the second round of NER300 grants. A decision on the second round is due in the second half of next year.
“Our assessment suggested that suitable wave energy technologies would not be ready on time for a 2015 deployment,” said a spokeswoman for the project developer, state utility ESB.
