Pollution from combustion plants to be cut further

A draft directive on medium-size combustion plants aims to cut air emissions from installations with rated thermal inputs of less than 50 megawatts

EU air pollution limits should be extended to around 143,000 smaller energy plants and industry installations, the European Commission proposed on Wednesday.

Released as part of its air quality package, the draft directive on medium-sized combustion plants (MCPs) aims to cut SO2, NOx and particulate emissions from installations with rated thermal inputs of between 1 and 50 megawatts. The rules will apply from 2018 for new plants and 2025 for existing installations.
