Europe urgently needs to update the way it assesses the risk chemical mixtures pose to the environment, according to a study by the EU’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).

Mixtures of 14 and 19 chemicals at concentrations around EU limits altered the microbial composition of seawater samples and harmed microalgae, and fish and frog embryos. Lab tests also showed effects on gene expression and endocrine systems.
