Miguel Arias Cañete, Spain’s European Commission candidate and Jean Claude Juncker’s choice for the energy and climate portfolio, has named electricity interconnection and carbon leakage support for industry among his priorities.

Laying out his plans at his European Parliament hearing on Wednesday night, Mr Cañete ruled out unilateral EU action on airline and shipping CO2 until international organisations have had a chance to introduce global rules.
