Pulp and paper mills have started to prepare for tougher pollution limits for their sector which will come into force in four years' time.

The European Commission published its final conclusions on the best available techniques (BAT) for producing pulp and paper on 26 September.

The conclusions will be used to finalise the new BAT reference document (BREF), which is used by regulators to set permit conditions under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).
