Private waste sector sets out policy goals

Eco-labels that encourage consumption of recycled products and EU action to lower the VAT rate for second-hand goods are among the policies the private waste management sector will lobby for in the coming years.

Sector association FEAD published its 2014-20 strategy this week, including a push for stronger EU rules on green public procurement to encourage the use of recycled materials.

“Public procurement should be by open competition and should not necessarily be awarded to the lowest tender but to the offer which delivers the most sustainable outcome,” the group said.
