Municipalities in countries at risk in the gas supply crisis outlined their contingency plans and energy security strategies at a conference in Brussels on Thursday.

Many local authorities are showing more ambition on renewables than required under EU and national targets, Michel Lebrun, President of the Committee of the Regions told the conference, which was organised by the European Commission.

“Six thousand municipalities and mayors have surpassed the objectives of the EU,” Mr Lebrun said.
