The Habitats and Birds Directives, which are set to be reviewed by the incoming European Commission, are a strong tool for protection of biodiversity and should not be weakened in any way.
A technical revision based on the EU court’s interpretation of the laws would improve legal clarity and provide even better nature protection.
In particular, the criteria established by the court for assessing and approving planned activities on Natura 2000 sites should be turned into solid legislation.
