MEPs urged EU leaders to agree on actions to address energy security and ensure competitiveness during a debate on the 2030 energy and climate targets.

Secure, affordable energy for Europe was on top of the MEPs’ agenda during a plenary debate ahead of the European Council meeting on Thursday and Friday.

Many MEPs called on EU leaders to prioritise energy interconnections as part of the 2030 policy package.

While MEPs were in agreement on the need to address energy security, views diverged on the proposed climate targets.
