BPA exposure from thermal paper is significantly increased by the use of hand sanitiser, scientists have said.

The European Chemicals Agency is currently considering a French proposal to restrict the use of the endocrine-disrupting substance in thermal paper, which is used in till receipts.

Food contact materials are the main source of exposure to BPA, but France says thermal paper could also be a significant source of exposure, particularly for cashiers who are in constant contact with till receipts.
