The European Commission will revise the emissions trading scheme (ETS) to fit the EU’s 2030 climate goal after legislators have reached a deal on reform of the scheme, according to a senior official.
A revision to bring the ETS in line with the 40% greenhouse gas reduction target for 2030 agreed by EU leaders in October will only be presented once the market stability reserve is finalised, said Jos Delbeke, head of the Commission’s climate department.
