An Icelandic watchdog has warned of poor implementation of international marine pollution laws.

The National Audit Office found Iceland has failed to ratify or implement a number of UN conventions and their amendments, including some that have also become EU law. As a member of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA), Iceland must implement many EU laws.

Iceland has not implemented Annex IV of the International Maritime Organization’s Marpol Convention on preventing pollution by sewage or Annex VI on air pollution.
