EU member states want to scrap an obligation for medium combustion plants to meet stricter emission limits in areas suffering from poor air quality, a draft position indicates.

Countries also want to apply less stringent limits to smaller plants with a maximum output of 5MW to “avoid excessive costs” for retrofitting existing facilities, according to the draft Council position seen by ENDS.

Plants firing biomass and biogas where the originally proposed values are “difficult to implement” would also benefit from eased limits.
