Wednesday’s Environment Council should have sent a “clear signal” to the European Commission of the importance of the issue of micro-plastics, the Italian EU presidency said after the meeting.

Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium, supported by Luxembourg, called for a ban on micro-plastics in cosmetics and detergents at the meeting. The Netherlands made a similar call last year.
