New initiatives promised for circular economy

The Commission supplemented its overhaul of EU waste law with a swathe of plans for future legislation, initiatives and guidelines it said would facilitate the transition to a circular economy

The European Commission has supplemented its proposed overhaul of EU waste law with a swathe of plans for future legislation, initiatives and industry guidelines it says will facilitate the transition to a more resource efficient EU.

Some of these planned initiatives replace targets proposed in the 2014 circular economy package. The new package contains no overall overall resource efficiency goal, scrapping the original package’s target of a 30% efficiency improvement by 2030.
