Volkswagen said on Wednesday that it overestimated how many cars had incorrect CO2 ratings and the extent of the discrepancy in affected models.
It has handed its findings over to the German transport authority, KBA, which will oversee a “remeasurement exercise” to check whether the assessments are correct. KBA is due to make a decision within two weeks.
Volkswagen said its internal investigation of the problem found no unlawful activity.
