Glyphosate renewal put before member states

Civil society groups have called on the European Commission to ban glyphosate as a member state committee met to discuss renewing its EU licence

Civil society groups have called on the European Commission to ban glyphosate as a member state committee met to discuss renewing its EU licence.

A decision to renew the licence for the world’s most widely used herbicide may be taken in January or March, according to experts.

The member state committee met to discuss the issue for the first time this week. Glyphosate’s authorisation was due to expire at the end of the year, but it was granted a six-month extension in September to allow for more time to consider if it should remain on the market.
