The majority of environment ministers believe that the European Commission’s updated circular economy package is an improvement on its predecessor.

At a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, many ministers particularly welcomed the fact that the new proposal makes different demands of different member states depending on their circumstances, particularly their current recycling rates.

The UK said the legislative targets may be “too high to be achievable”, adding that “the overall suite of targets may be too complex.” Romania also said the legislative targets would be “challenging”.
