European countries consumed 79% of the world’s supply of wood pellets last year as the EU’s renewable energy target drives growth in bioenergy.
The UK was the world’s biggest consumer of wood pellets, with Denmark in third place, Italy fourth and Sweden fifth, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization said. The USA was in second place.
These five countries accounted for 55% of global consumption.
