Weak biomass support hits Dutch renewable energy targets

The Netherlands is near the bottom of the EU renewable energy league table, the Dutch statistics office has warned

The Netherlands is near the bottom of the EU renewable energy league table, the Dutch statistics office (CBS) has warned. The office blamed a lack of biomass energy development and relatively low government support for renewables.

In a brief report issued on 31 March, based on Eurostat figures, CBS noted that as of 2014 the Dutch share of renewable energy (5.5%) was third last of all EU countries, better only than Malta and Luxembourg.
