A UK energy production firm has won its battle to resume fracking for shale gas in Lancashire after a government minister overturned a previous decision.

On 6 October communities secretary Sajid Javid overturned Lancashire County Council’s decision to reject Cuadrilla’s application to drill and hydraulically fracture four wells at Preston New Road in the Fylde area.

However, Javid did not come to a decision on Cuadrilla’s appeal to explore for shale gas at a second site at Roseacre Wood, but said he is “minded to allow [it]... and grant planning permission, subject to conditions”.
