EU companies and hospitals have been linked to drug-resistant bacteria breeding in polluted water at antibiotics manufacturing sites in India in a report released on Wednesday.
Campaigning organisation Changing Markets reported that water samples from pharmaceutical manufacturing sites in India showed high levels of bacteria resistant to antibiotics at 16 out of 34 sites tested. At four sites, resistance to three major classes of antibiotics was found, including those used to treat infections that fail to respond to other medicines.
