Advocate general Maciej Szpunar has argued that the European Commission should give multinational firm Saint-Gobain information on carbon allowances granted to the company that the institution has withheld since 2012.
The opinion from Szpunar, who sits in the EU Court of Justice, directly contradicts a judgment from the General Court in 2014 that backed the Commission in its decision not to disclose the information on grounds of confidentiality. According to him, that ruling should now be set aside and the Commission ordered to share the information with Saint-Gobain and pay the company’s legal costs.
